The best clients often do not come from ads or cold outreach. They come from people who already know, like, and trust you. Referrals are not luck. They are a system. Jay Abraham, one of the greatest marketing thinkers, calls this “93 Extraordinary Referral Systems.”
He argues that if you have seven dependable referral sources, you will rarely lack clients.
This week’s action step: Map your 7 referral sources.
Your goal: turn relationships into a repeatable, reliable growth system.
How to do it in one hour
List every person or group that has ever sent you business.
Think beyond clients. Include partners, suppliers, community leaders, event hosts, and supporters.Identify your top 7 referral sources.
Use a varied mix such as:Past clients who had great results
Current clients who can introduce you to peers
Strategic partners (marketers, accountants, consultants)
Industry networks and events
Vendors and suppliers
Friends or business colleagues
Local community groups or online communities
Write one sentence for each source.
How will I stay visible to them?
What value can I offer first?
How can I make referring me easy?
Create your referral tracker.
Use a spreadsheet with columns:Source name
Type (client, partner, network)
Last contact date
Next planned touchpoint
Notes or opportunities
Make it part of your weekly rhythm.
Every Friday, review your tracker. Reach out to one or two people to reconnect, share value, or offer help. You are not chasing. You are nurturing your ecosystem.
What you gain in the first week
Clarity on where your best leads come from
A simple, repeatable system you can delegate or automate
Stronger relationships and consistent inbound opportunities
Confidence knowing you already have people ready to refer you
