Christmas is often about clients, sales, deadlines, and rushing to close the year. But there is one group that often gets forgotten in the stress, your team.
Without them, nothing moves. They are the ones who make sure quotes go out, orders are delivered, and clients are cared for. Yet too often, teams are treated as “safe.” You assume they will keep showing up, keep fighting, keep giving their best.
The truth is, no team should ever feel taken for granted. Recognition is one of the strongest motivators at work. Money matters, but being seen and valued is what keeps people loyal and engaged.
This week’s action step: Take one hour to thank your team.
How to do it in one hour
You do not need a big budget. You need intention. Pick one of these simple actions and make it personal:
Write each person a handwritten thank-you card. One or two sentences from the heart is enough.
Bring in home-baked cookies, a small gift, or something thoughtful that shows you care.
Organise a simple team lunch or coffee break where the focus is on them, not the company.
Start your next team meeting with a gratitude round, calling out specific contributions by name.
Set up a “thank-you wall” (whiteboard, Slack channel, or shared doc) where everyone can add notes of appreciation.
The goal is simple: every person should walk away knowing they matter, that their work is seen, and that the company would not be where it is without them.
Bonus reminder
If you think about a topic that must be in focus at least once a year, make it your team. Systems, clients, and sales keep the business alive, but your people make it possible every single day. And Christmas is the best time of the year to remind them.
Your action for today
Block one hour next week to prepare your thank-you. Decide what fits your style best, cards, cookies, a meeting, or a small gift. Keep it personal. Keep it real.
