When someone calls in sick, most SME owners feel the shockwave immediately. Deadlines slip, clients wait, and the rest of the team scrambles to pick up the pieces. One missing person should not bring business to a halt.

This week’s action step: Create a One-Page Handover Plan.

Goal for this week
Your team can cover gaps without stress. Work keeps moving, even if someone is out tomorrow.

What to include in each handover plan

  • An up-to-date to-do list, shareable and visible for at least one other team member

  • A list of tools and systems used, with access secured for the team

  • An up-to-date contact list, shareable and properly organized

  • Key deadlines and important information for the next week

How to set it up in one hour

  1. Ask each team member to create a one-page Word document titled “Handover Plan – [Name]”.

  2. Use a simple structure: To-do list, Tools and Access, Contacts, Key Deadlines.

  3. Save each document in a shared folder that the whole team can access.

  4. Make sure contact details and shared to-do lists stay up-to-date at all times.

  5. Use a simple form or checklist to make updates structured and easy.
